Someone arrived at my site today via your 100+ books page. I see you’ve been having trouble getting into Homer’s Odyssey. Which version have you been using? Probably most popular these days is Richard Lattimore’s 1965 verse translation, but I much prefer Robert Fitzgerald’s 1963 (not to be confused with Robert Fagles’ 1996) translation. No matter which you choose, I strongly recommend verse over prose.

Oh I loved this! The BEST thing about being a kid is believing in things we can’t see, and we should never lose that!

PS: I do not share your love of cleaning, but you SO hit the mark with #1….who doesn’t love talking about themselves? (only a liar who claims not to, haha )

Electrologist is good for that inspecting/probing/zen-like fascination. I think dermatology and dentistry might have too many nasty necrotic aspects. Yes, laser hair removal is encroaching, but there is still a place in this world for electrolysis.

Dentistry is just nasty – bad breath is more hurl-worthy than any amount of blood. But dermatology is neat (necrosis included).

I hate it when ppl borrow books and don't return it. It's like people don't understand that these are my babies. I've loved each one of them (well except for crime and punishment). I have post-its all over my books so that I can go back to certain passages and reread them. I used to use sticky notes in mine too - until I found these: book darts. these are great and don't wear out or lift print like sticky notes do.

Your #2 reminds me of something. If I could have picked a different profession (other than the one I studied and don’t engage in) I would have been either a dermatologist, or maybe a dentist. I am fascinated by skin things especially. Popping zits, checking out other puss-oozing welts, that sort of things. Cannot stand blood, but otherwise, hey. I go w/ it.

I thought about dermatology too, or obstetrics – but you know how it is, I felt this deep calling to be a technical writer (and I SUCK at math). Blood doesn’t bother me at all, but for some reason seeing someone’s eyelid turned inside out does. Weird.
