Making order out of chaos

Doodling while drinking

Shaun and I went to see the Vancouver Art Gallery’s Vermeer, Rembrandt and the Golden Age of Dutch Art exhibition recently – we frowned thoughtfully at pictures of dead birds, cows, table settings and people in fancy clothing.

I was all excited to see an amazing exhibition and – this makes me a cretin, I know – I wasn’t all that impressed. I was expecting to see Girl with a Pearl Earring and some self portraits of Rembrandt, but those were not on offer. Worse, the upstairs portion of the gallery was all cordoned off, so for $20 I got to see a lot of grazing cows and fancy clothes.

Later, we headed to the Kingston Taphouse and had burgers and beers like the uncultured mouth-breathers we are and talk turned to my stick people cards. After two pints of Guinness I doodled the following:

unplanned-parenthood

Something tells me that Hallmark is not looking to sell cards in bars and pubs. If I’m wrong, please email me – there’s more smart-assery where this came from.

I don’t know if it’s a complement or an insult to observe that your artistic ability is unaffected by alcohol intake.

I’m not sure either – but let’s go with ‘compliment’ – it sounds nicer. I think I might actually be better at drawing stick people when I’ve had a couple of pints actually. ;)

Reminds me so much of Mean Cards from Philly. And I mean that in the very best way!

I feel very complimented! :D Those are pretty amusing!

I don’t know. Greeting cards being sold at pubs and bars might actually sell really well. The cards proclaiming apologies for the sins of those trying to drown their sorrows would probably fly off the rack.

“I wish she hadn’t broken up with me…if only I hadn’t slept with her best friend. I wish there was some way to tell her I was sorry. Wait…what’s this? A card saying exactly that? No way!!! I’ll take three please.”

I never thought of it that way, but you could be on to something here! Apologies for everything from hitting on a hot server to barfing on someone’s cute little shoes. Maybe even apology cards to yourself to be purchased while drunk! “Dear stomach – I’m really sorry I did that last tequila shooter. Are we still BFFs?”
